Healthy Relationships Group_ Social Cues– Click Link to Download Handout
This past week in our Healthy Relationships group, we discussed social cues and understanding others’ boundaries. We explored how to observe eye contact, recognize changes in tone of voice, and respect personal space preferences.
Some members shared experiences of loved ones asking them to adjust their behavior, such as giving more personal space. It can feel uncomfortable and bring up feelings of guilt or confusion. However, by communicating what we’re feeling and explaining our reactions, others can better understand us and empathize.
Everyone could relate to the experience of having their boundaries crossed or feeling uncomfortable with someone else’s actions. But why do we sometimes struggle to change ourselves? Whether it’s getting frustrated with a coworker or telling the wrong story at the wrong time, we’ve all been there.
I’ve attached the boundaries handout we discussed. Each of us committed to working on a boundary this month. Mine is to stay open and flexible with my ideas and plans, and to encourage others to share and help shape my day. Sometimes, I notice my possessiveness over my time or plans, and instead of recognizing the value others bring, I can become selfish and withdrawn. It’s important to forgive ourselves and keep working toward change each day.
A huge thank you to all who attended! I’m so grateful for each of you. Creating a space where we can share our voices is empowering in ways we might not realize until we experience it. If you’re interested in joining next month’s support group, we’ll be talking about Love Languages—I hope to see you there!
Special thanks to Ana, our Clubhouse staff, for her help with the handouts. She proofreads and improves everything I find, and her dedication always shines through. Ana, you inspire me to be my best self!
