Exploring Resources and Building Connections: Touring Moore Library

On November 16th, PHA Clubhouse members had the pleasure of visiting the Tacoma Public Library’s Moore Branch for an engaging and insightful Library Day. This event offered our members an opportunity to discover the wealth of resources available to support their journeys in employment, housing, and education.

Our tour was led by Cathy, a warm and knowledgeable librarian who went above and beyond to showcase everything the library has to offer. From employment assistance and educational materials to housing information, Cathy highlighted how the Moore Branch serves as a vital hub for community support. Members were introduced to an array of book collections, including large print and Spanish-language options, sparking inspiration for future visits.

Beyond books, Cathy shared an impressive variety of resources available to library cardholders. Members learned about opportunities to gain certifications in areas like digital literacy and professional development, along with the convenience of printing documents from home using their library card. Additionally, the library offers passes that can be checked out for local museums and national parks—an amazing perk for anyone looking to explore and learn beyond the library walls.

The Moore Branch also boasts a large DVD collection, and members were delighted to hear about the option to borrow a portable DVD player at the front desk. This makes entertainment and learning more accessible for those without at-home technology.

Members explored how the library collaborates with local organizations to meet community needs. On the day of our visit, we saw the Tacoma Housing Authority had been actively engaging with visitors, a drop-in tech help session, a typing club, and preparations for an evening Fix-It night. Thanks to the Tacoma Tool Library, Fix-It night includes anything from technical difficulties to troubleshooting a lawnmower. It was inspiring to see how the library brings people together to learn, grow, and connect.

Our Director, Steve, joined members in exploring these resources, sharing in the excitement of discovering new opportunities. The visit left everyone feeling empowered and eager to utilize the tools and connections offered by the Moore Branch.

A heartfelt thank you to Cathy and the team at Tacoma Public Library for hosting us and making the experience so enriching. Your dedication to fostering community growth and education is invaluable. We look forward to many more visits in the future!
